Farmers' Markets
Farmers have been taking their produce to market for centuries. The present day idea of farmers' markets came from the United States, where many hundreds are held, and there are now over 200 in this country. With globalisation, a more centralised transport system and the rise of supermarkets having an adverse affect on the local food economy, farmers' markets are a good way to revitalise town centres and encourage less intensive agriculture.
- Leigh-on-Sea: At Leigh Community Centre, Elm Road (9.00am - 12.00) on Friday 22 July, Friday 26 August, Saturday 24 September, Friday 28 October and Saturday 26 November.
- Rochford: In the WI Hall, Market Square (9.30am-12.15pm) on Saturday 6 August, Saturday 3 September, Saturday 1 October and Saturday 5 November.
- Hadleigh: At The Salvation Army, Home Farm, Castle Lane, Hadleigh (from 12.00 onwards) held on every second Wednesday of the month.
- The Southend-on-Sea Farmers' Market takes place every third Wednesday of the month in the High Street (upper half, usually around the new Clinton's store/Natwest area), between 8.30am - 2.00pm.
